After a pretty average season to date Sam found some of the form we know he is capable of producing. Three 4-0 wins on day one and a tough 4-3 win against Jimmy Robinson on day two set him up for a match against fellow West Country cueist Judd Trump in the quarter finals. Sam missed very little to win by a convincing 4-1. In the semi-final Sam's good form continued as he matched Ryan Day to level at 2-2 with a superb 130 break. Having played so well in the first four frames he was to miss a couple of vital reds. This let in Ryan who scored heavily to run out a 4-3 winner.

So near yet do far but Sam will take heart from a convincing run that will lift him a few places in the rankings and help make up for losing his sponsorship.
